Pediculosis capitis, also known as head lice, is a common infestation of lice (small parasitic insects) on the scalp and hair of the head. It is most common in children, but can affect people of all ages.

Head lice are small, grayish-white insects that are about the size of a sesame seed. They live on the scalp and feed on blood from the scalp. They can cause itching, redness, and irritation of the scalp, and can lead to secondary infection if scratching is excessive.

Head lice are usually spread through direct contact with an infested person’s hair, such as through sharing combs, brushes, hats, or other personal items. They can also be spread through close contact with an infested person, such as through hugging or holding hands.

The treatment for head lice typically involves the use of over-the-counter or prescription medications that kill the lice and their eggs. These medications can be applied to the hair and scalp and should be used according to the package instructions. It’s also important to wash all clothing, bedding, and personal items that may have come in contact with head lice, to avoid re-infestation.

It’s important to note that Head lice infestation is not a sign of poor hygiene and it can happen to anyone, regardless of their social or economic status.
